How can I be sure I am truly saved?
By Matthew (Tolu) Olowoyeye
Scripture1 John 5:13
Assurance does not rest on the strength of your feelings, which rise and fall, but on the finished work of Christ and the promises of God. Salvation is received by grace through faith — trusting that Jesus died for your sins and rose again, and turning to Him as Lord. If you have done that, His Word says you are His. Scripture gives marks that accompany genuine faith: a growing love for God and His people, grief over sin, a desire to obey, and the inner witness of the Holy Spirit. These are not perfect in anyone, but they are present and growing in the truly converted. If you fear you are not saved, that very concern is often a sign the Spirit is at work — the spiritually dead do not lie awake worrying about it. Stop trying to feel saved and start resting on Christ's promise. Scripture: — “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life.” Take this step: Settle it in prayer today: confess your need, trust Christ's death and resurrection for you, and ask Him to be Lord of your life. Then tell one believer so they can walk with you.
Prayer
Father, thank You for meeting me in my questions. Give me wisdom to understand Your truth, faith to trust You where I cannot yet see, and grace to walk it out today. Anchor my heart in 1 John 5:13. In Jesus' name, amen.
